Antique Time Clock
NYS Time Recorder History
New York State Time Recorder History And Time Line

Thank you for visiting my site there are a series of events leading up to what is now called IBM. The Series of Events are somewhat in order. To this day I’m finding things that I’ve never seen or worked on. So Bare with me as I ad and correct information on these clocks. Please not this page is for clocks in Southern tier Binghamton NY area and there are a lot of other clocks and info which I will add pages for them, for now covering start of ITR /IBM Coming Together.

Alexander Dey for Inventing the Dial wheel recorder in 1888 As well as producing a job recorder as well that I do not have date on it yet. Dey was also called Dey Time Register and also calls The Dey Patents Co Syracuse NY and London England Holding Patents in US and Overseas

Willard Bundy for Inventing the Key recorder. Invented in 1888

Daniel Cooper who invented the first card recorder right around 1894

Syracuse Dial Recorder Small Heavy Cast Clock ( No Dates Yet)

Crouse hinds Large Clock which I will add more info on ( no Dates Yet)

International time recorder acquired all five companies becoming ITR IBM in 1914.

Below are samples, of clocks and parts produced by these companies.

This is going to seem very confusing to you, and I will try my best to explain everything thing that took place.

International Time Recorder bought out these companies. In doing so, used parts from these companies (clocks- the case’s movements and other parts) then adding there own dials, which you will see below. These clocks are called transition clocks. You will see clocks by Dey with on dial boosting Syracuse NY and Endicott New York.

ITR (international time recorder) Bought out Dey ( Dey was also a US and Overseas Company , which was Dey Howard Dial recorders England). See I’m already confusing some of you. Basically Dey had an overseas market that ITR was after in buying Dey , ITR was able to take the overseas Market that Dey had already done, which Dey owned what was called Howard Brothers who had offices at 40 Paradise Street Liverpool, and at 100b Queen Victoria Street London. You will find clocks that are marked Howard (NOT TO BE MISTAKEN WITH E. HOWARD in US as some have done) So with all this being said you will find Dial Recorders that are marked as follows: Dey/ Howard Howard London Dey London Dey Syracuse NY Dey London Dey Endicott NY ITR Endicott NY IBM Endicott NY No Dial recorders with Big wheel Marked Binghamton NY (Please note I’ve not found any at this point, but there are partial dial recorders to be later discussed Below you will see some of these clocks and I’ll add as more as soon as I get them.

International Time Recorder Bought Out Bundy of Binghamton NY and used Bundy Parts in their clocks below you will see a couple photos of what I’m talking about here. Bundy clocks Had Seth Thomas Movements in them, Which later ITR / IBM starting making there own units and hard larger winding arbors (Confused yet) not to worry as I will add with each photos a info explaining what took place.

There are Bundy Clocks which oh course are key recorders. And there are International time recorders that are transition clocks (simple Bundy Clock with ITR of Binghamton NY dial. And later clock which became ITR Key recorder.

Knowing the difference is everything. I went to a so-called Museum and they showed me a few clocks. Funny thing that was said, this Bundy Has wrong dial on it, what a shame someone will screw that clock up by changing the dial (it had the right dial, I said nothing and left). Any way’s my point is if your not sure, ask me before you change or modify your clock, it might not look right but in fact is right. There are also others are who wise guy’s putting things together and calling it a clock. Its Buyer Beware.

The Bundy thing here is going to take time to fill you in.

ITR Rochester Card Recorder – The Inventor of this clock was Daniel Cooper (limited info) At this point Daniel Cooper invented the first punch Mech. (card stamp) for time recording, which later ITR improved and added to. These clocks were very fancy; they came in short models and wall-mounted models, very pretty clocks. Later on I will cover more on these clocks. I’m in the process of writing a book and hence limiting info at this point.

Also note International Time recorder made cases as Well as Seth Thomas as well as local woodworkers. So if your not sure, ask, I will help you figure out the case you have. Some are worth more money then. Others. Inside cases you will find a small slot of the wood under door on case, this slot had string in it or some times called cat gut, rope material of some sort. The reason behind this was to keep dust out of cases. Later this was stopped. This was done on mainly earlier clocks. This will help you in dating your clock. Not sure ask me.

The Rochester Card Recorder Below has a movement with three winding arbors in upper movement; this was for day of week, which later was moved done to lower punch clock part, which I’ll cover in greater detail down the road.

So Please also note there is so much History out there some photos might be repeated on other pages, reason for this it mostly likely has to do with that pages history and I will in time get all this sorted. Some of photo’s are of clocks I’m restoring for others and some I own. The clocks I’m restoring and putting on here are thanks to my clients giving permission to put on my site and all content and photo belong to me and are not to be published on any site nor are ever to use my info on your ebay site. You may use a link directing people here nothing else. I buy off ebay and Internet sites, if you use my content on your site I’ll know. I had to state this as I’ve worked very hard for years doing this and I’m sharing and saving the info here at NO CHARGE. I love these clocks and truly hope you find the joy and beauty in these as well. Again thank you for visiting my site.

Bundy Key Recorder - ITR Bundy Parts - ITR Case Yet A Bundy- transition clocks

Brock - Bruce Of England

This was added just to tell you their were case parts made by other companies and woodworkers. I'll Explain more later date , but for now this advertisting came out of a woodworkers trunk and the mans trunk this came out of use to build cases for Bundy And ITR, this was only thing I saved from trunk, the molding planes and tools were sold years ago, If I knew I was going to do this someday I would of saved them, I saved this as it was pretty dirty and I was pretty proud of myself at the time for saving it.
